Here are some key tips to stay safe:
▶ Listen to Your Body Early: Take frequent breaks in shaded areas, cool off for at least 10 minutes, drink water, and have a salty snack like nuts or an energy bar.
▶ Dress Smart: Wear lightweight clothing/coveralls and ventilated shoes to help your body stay cool.
▶ Watch What You Drink: Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and sugary beverages before, during, and after being in the heat, as they can dehydrate you.
▶ Ease into the Heat: Take it easy during the hottest parts of the day, especially at the beginning of summer as your body needs time to acclimate.
Remember, no one is immune to heat stress, so always do a risk assessment before starting your shift. Stay hydrated, stay cool, and most importantly, stay safe! Everyone’s safety matters.
